Clinical and Histopathological Evaluation of Using Platelet-Rich Plasma and Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix in Treatment of Induced Chronic Open Wounds in Bucks

Abstract: Objective: This study was designed to identify the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma gel (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRF) application on the induced open chronic full-thickness cutaneous wounds in goats. Methods: A total of 24 adult apparently healthy local breed bucks were used in this study. PRP gel and PRF matrix were prepared from whole blood at the time of treatment, four square full-thickness skin wounds (4 cm × 4 cm) on the dorsal sides of the back of each animal were created, by daily scr… Show more

“…In our study, mononuclear inflammatory cells were found in PRF-injected areas versus the untreated donor site which was in line with results discovered by other authors [17,18]. In addition, mature thick collagen fibers were seen well organized in the dermis at the PRF-injected donor site, in contrast to the control donor location, where immature collagen fibers were commonly visible and this was in line with the findings of other researchers [17,18,21,22].…”

“…The percentages were calculated according to the linear regression equation of each amino acid. The mean percentages of glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline were 33.247±0.20%; 11.867±0.20%; and 10.510±0.23%, which were similar to the levels of bovine collagen reported by Schrieber and Gareis, i.e., 33% glycine, 11% proline, and 10% hydroxyproline [9,10].…”
