Clean hydrogen generation and storage strategies via CO 2 utilization into chemicals and fuels: A review

Abstract: Summary Hydrogen becomes one of the most clean energy sources. The major issues on hydrogen are lack of practical clean and high‐temperature processes and possible practical storage of clean hydrogen. An energy intensive of clean hydrogen storage via chemical and liquid fuel production route is the current demand. This article reviewed the most recent research for hydrogen (H2) production by using several methods, such as thermochemical process, thermal decomposition, biological approaches, electrolysis, and p… Show more

“…The photocatalytic reaction is a mild process, which has been extensively studied for contaminant remediation, hydrogen production, carbon dioxide reduction, and fine chemical synthesis . However, because of the combination of hole‐electrons, the efficiency of hydrogen production from pure water splitting is low .…”

“…The photocatalytic reaction is a mild process, which has been extensively studied for contaminant remediation, hydrogen production, carbon dioxide reduction, and fine chemical synthesis. 14,[54][55][56][57][58] However, because of the combination of hole-electrons, the efficiency of hydrogen production from pure water splitting is low. 27,59 As shown in Table 1, the photocatalytic hydrogen production was promoted when the corn stover was added into the reaction system.…”

“…Hydrogen is considered as a clean and green energy benefitting from water as its only combustion product with high calorific value of 122 kJ kg −1 . Among the strategies for H 2 production, photocatalytic H 2 O splitting into H 2 is confirmed to be a promising alternative through solar energy conversion over semiconductors .…”

“…The production of hydrogen gas via water electrolysis is an environmentally correct alternative as it does not produce greenhouse gases. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] The theoretical bases of water electrolysis have already been defined 9 . However, industrial production of H 2 faces electrode deactivation and efficiency issues 1,10 , which can be solved by the use of new electrolytes and new cathodic materials.…”
