We gathered survey data on journalists’ political views in 17 Western countries. We then matched these data to outcomes from national elections, and constructed metrics of journalists’ relative preference for different political parties. Compared to the general population of voters, journalists prefer parties that have more left-wing positions overall (r’s -.47 to -.53, depending on the metric used), and that are associated with certain ideologies, namely environmentalism, feminism, social liberalism, socialism, and support for the European Union. We used Bayesian model averaging to assess the validity of the predictors in multivariate models. We found that, of the ideology tags in our dataset, ‘conservative’ (negative), ‘nationalist’ (negative) and ‘green’ (positive) were the most consistent predictors with nontrivial effect sizes. We also computed estimates of the skew of journalists' political views in different countries. Overall, our results indicate that the Western media has a left-liberal skew.

This study was aimed to prepare dental impression material from Sargassum duplicatum taken from Binuangeun, Banten. The setting time was tested according to ANSI/ADA Specification for Alginate Impression Materials 1983. After extraction, obtained the alginate powder then mixed its water/powder ratio from the combination of alginate composition and tested final setting time. Variations of the formulations used different calcium sulfate (0,1 g; 0,2 g; and 0,3 g). Product quality parameters are lumps, solubility, consistency, flow, tearing, setting time. The alginate yield obtained from Sargassum duplicatum by 31 % with characteristic gel strength by 816 (gr/cm 2 ); viscosity 238 mPas (2%; room temperature). The highest ratio is the best ratio by adding calcium sulfate powder of 0.1 gram with a setting time of 3 minutes.

Do only major scientific breakthroughs hit the news and social media, or does a 'catchy' title help to attract public attention? How strong is the connection between the importance of a scientific paper and the (social) media attention it receives? In this study we investigate these questions by analysing the relationship between the observed attention and certain characteristics of scientific papers from two major multidisciplinary journals: Nature Communication (NC) and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). We describe papers by features based on the linguistic properties of their titles and centrality measures of their authors in their co-authorship network. We identify linguistic features and collaboration patterns that might be indicators for future attention, and are characteristic to different journals, research disciplines, and media sources.
