Abstract: This study aims to gather and present scientific evidence on the role of a physiotherapist in the pre, peri and postoperative of pediatric cardiac surgery. This professional is able to prevent, minimize or reverse possible respiratory dysfunction and motor sequelae resulting from these interventions. “…Embora a síndrome do baixo débito seja descrita por outros autores como a principal complicação decorrente no pós-operatório de T 4 F, que pode ser ocasionada pela disfunção diastólica ou de relaxamento, assim como pela disfunção sistólica (7) , o presente estudo mostra que a complicação que mais acometeu as crianças foi o derrame pelural em 20% da população, seguida de pneumonia com 10%. Outros estudos mostram que as complicações respiratórias aparecem em alta incidência nas crianças após correções cardíacas em geral, isso se deve à alteração da mecânica ventilatória, proveniente da incisão cirúrgica e da própria anatomofisiologia decorrente do procedimento, que leva à diminuição da complacência pulmonar (6,13) .
