“…The local cingulate cortex (Ci) shows three slightly different dorsoventral subdivisions (separated by dash lines in Figure 5c,d). This tripartite pattern has been repeatedly observed also with cytoarchitectonic and myeloarchitectonic stains (Rose, 1929;Vogt and Paxinos, 2014;Nieuwenhuys, Broere, & Cerliani, 2015;Vogt, 2015;Nieuwenhuys & Broere, 2017). In comparison with the insula and perirhinal cortex, the immature P8 postrhinal cortex appears similarly devoid of any Azin2-lacZ signal, and there is no sign of claustral cells (PoR; Figure 5e).…”

“…Following Vogt and Paxinos (), the classic prelimbic/infralimbic cortex (IL) was added to cingulate cortex (Cing), which jointly with the retrosplenial area (RSP) builds the parahippocampal mesocortex, also termed “dorsomedial pallium” in the Pattabiraman et al () model. Nowadays the terms “prelimbic” and “infralimbic” are falling in disuse (since they contradictorily suggest a nonlimbic nature), and the whole cingulate mesocortex has been proposed to be divided into three territories identified as posterior cingulate (PCC, old retrosplenial), midcingulate (MCC), and anterior cingulate (ACC, reaching the pregenual area 25; Vogt and Paxinos, ; Vogt, ). The three cingulate areas are modernly further subdivided anteroposteriorly, and display throughout three longitudinal areal domains with increasing laminar complexity, ranging from periallocortex to proisocortex, delimited parallel to the indusium griseum and taenia tecta.…”

“…3) for parasagittal sections. Cortical lamination was delineated according to Swanson (2004) and Zilles (1985) with an appropriate reference to Vogt (2015) and to Vogt and Paxinos (2014) for the cingulate areas.…”
