“…The causes of chylous ascites have been classified as spontaneous or traumatic. 1 The most common cause of chylous ascites resulting from retroperitoneal surgery is blunt abdominal trauma or surgical disruption of the major lymph channels. There have been some reports on chylous ascites after radiation therapy in patients with gynecologic cancer, but reports of chylous ascites caused by pelvic or para-aortic lymph node dissection (PALND) are relatively rare.…”

“…Gribetz and Kanof (1951) found only 25 such children in a search of the world literature. During 30 years at the Mayo Clinic there were only 8 children among 79 patients with chylous ascites, and in 6 of these congenital disorders of the lymphatics were proven or presumed (Kelly and Butt, 1960). In our patient we consider that tuberculosis caused temporary lymphatic obstruction from inflammation within the vessels or because of pressure from enlarged lymph nodes.…”

“…Chyloperitoneum usually results from obstruction of the thoracic duct, cysterna chyli or intestinal lymphatics (McCarthy and Organ, 1958). In adults, the underlying abnormality is most frequently neoplastic (Kelly and Butt, 1960) and other causes such as tratuma, tuberculosis and congenital abnormalities of the lymphatics are unusual (Nix, Albert, Dugas and Wendt, 1957). Chyloperitoneum is extremely rare in childhood; * Triglyde (Mead Johnson).…”

“…According to Manolitsas et al (7) , 25 cases of chylous ascites associated with gynecologic malignancy has been reported. In those reports, the underlying primary malignancy was cervical cancer in three cases (8)(9)(10) . Chylous ascites has not been reported following pelvic lymph node dissection without the addition of either para-aortic lymph node dissection or radiation therapy (7) .…”
