Chronotyp und Depression bei Jugendlichen – ein Review

Abstract: Zusammenfassung. Show more

“…This study investigates the association between chronotype and mental health in a representative sample of Canadian adolescents. A later chronotype related to more emotional difficulties and behavioural problems, consistent with previous research linking late chronotypes with internalizing (Diaz‐Morales, ; Díaz‐Morales & Escribano, ; Gau et al, ; Keller et al, ) and externalizing (Gau et al, ; Lange & Randler, ; Merikanto et al, ; Schlarb et al, ) problems in youth. A later chronotype also related to less emotional well‐being and fewer prosocial behaviours, supporting emerging evidence that chronotype influences positive mental health (Hasler et al, ; Lange & Randler, ).…”

“…School start time did not influence the association between chronotype and mental health. Delaying school start time was proposed as a strategy to equalize health differences between adolescents with an early and late chronotype (Keller et al, ; Randler, ). Other research (Wheaton, Chapman, & Croft, ), including our own (Gariépy, Janssen, & Sentenac, ), found that a later school start time relates to more sleep in adolescents.…”

“…Additionally, it distinguishes between work and free days, thus determining both chronotype and SJL within one and the same questionnaire. Whereas the MEQ has been used extensively in previous studies, for example to reveal associations of evening preference with depressive symptomatology (Hidalgo et al, 2009; Kitamura et al, 2010) and impaired sleep quality (Vardar et al, 2008), only few studies assessed chronotype and SJL with the MCTQ to examine their relation with depressive symptoms in the general population (Keller et al, 2016).…”
