Chronic infections and histamine, CRP and IL-6 levels after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty

Abstract: Reactivation of Cpn and HCMV and inflammatory change characterized by increased levels of histamine, CRP and IL-6 following PTCA are suggested. An association might exist between Cpn IgA antibody and histamine levels in patients of unstable angina.

“…Because of its broad arrhythmogenic potential, and the lack of prospective data on the role of histamine in patients with AF, a pilot study was recently performed to evaluate plasma histamine concentrations in patients with AF: there was a subpopulation of 10 patients with AF (21.2% of the enrolled subjects) that demonstrated clearly elevated levels of histamine [4]. In these patients, increased plasma histamine levels may be the result of ingestion of histamine containing food, allergic or pseudo-allergic reactions, infectious or immunologic disorders or other factors [28].…”

“…Compounds such as cytokines, neuropeptides, anaphylatoxins, growth factors, and free radicals all have the ability to induce nonimmunological activation of mast cells and basophils. 9,36,37 Other histamineproducing cells with immune function include monocytes, lymphocytes, fibroblasts, ovarian cells, and murine bone marrow-derived macrophages. These cells differ in that they contain far less histamine per cell and unlike mast cells and basophils, do not store histamine in specific granules but secrete it after stimulation triggers synthesis and immediate release.…”

“…This cytokine has been found to play an important role in the biological function of the immune system, bone marrow, and central nervous system . IL‐6 is an important participant in cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis and has been deemed as a diagnostic marker of diseases such as percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, in which the circulating level of IL‐6 is increased .…”
