Chitosan/ZIF‐8 Mixed‐Matrix Membranes for Pervaporation Dehydration of Isopropanol

Abstract: Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized and embedded into a chitosan (CS) polymeric matrix to prepare CS/ZIF-8 mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) in order to investigate the effect of ZIF-8 addition as novel filler on the dehydration performance of the CS polymeric membrane. MMMs were evaluated using pervaporation (PV) dehydration of isopropanol (IPA). The synthesized ZIF-8 nanoparticles and MMMs were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energ… Show more

“…2, the XRD pattern of ZIF‐8 shows intense characteristic peaks at 2θ values of 7.56°, 10.58°, 12.94°, and 18.27°. The XRD pattern obtained for the ZIF‐8 particle synthesized in this work is comparable to those results found in the literature 41 . Meanwhile, it can be observed from Fig.…”

“…Different zeolites such as NaA, 21 NaY, 22 NaX, 23,24 ZIF-8 (ref. 25) and ZSM-5 (ref. [26][27][28][29][30] have been blended with polymers for the fabrication MMMs in the pervaporation process.…”

“…The peak at 1621 cm −1 increased after NC coated with CCL or CCS, attributing to the C C vibration between ZIF-7 and CL/CS (Gao, Hai, Baigude, Guan, & Liu, 2016). In addition, an obvious peak at 1160 cm −1 of NC@CCS should be attributed to the presence of C N stretching vibrations (Fazlifard, Mohammadi, & Bakhtiari, 2017) originating in amino group of chitosan.…”
