Chemical constituents from the flower of Datura metel L.

Abstract: Phytochemical investigation of the 50% ethanol eluate fraction of macroporous resin for the flower of Datura metel L. led to the isolation of a new compound named yangjinhualine A (1) and five known megastigmane sesquiterpenes through repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatography and semipreparative HPLC. The structures of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods, including 2D-NMR, ESI-MS, and HR-ESI-MS spectrometry as well as by comparison with published data. Five known megastigmane sesqu… Show more

“…22 All species of the genus Datura are members of the Solanaceae family and the taxonomy of Datura genera is imprecise and poorly understood. [22][23][24][25][26] It is estimated that there are 15-25 different Datura species that are indigenous to many parts of the world including Europe, North America, North Africa, and eastern and southwestern Asia. 24,26 The more common species are listed in Table 2.…”

“…6). [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28] There are significant interspecies differences and the ratio of atropine to scopolamine and the presence of at least 26 other related alkaloids will vary even between and among specimens of the same species. 28 The differences may account for unexpected doseresponse effects that are observed in some patients and even different profiles of toxicity [e.g., more or less central nervous system (CNS) activity].…”

“…Four compounds were detected in methanolic extracts of flower, including cis-2-nitro-4-t-butylcyclohexanone (36.54%), acetic acid, trifluoro-, 2,2-dimethylpropyl ester (31.97%), 4-trifluoroacetoxyoctane (19.28%) and 1,4-cyclohexadiene, 1-methyl-(12.22%) [89]. Phytochemical investigation of the 50% ethanol fraction of macroporous resin of the flower of the plant led to the isolation of yangjinhualine A and five megastigmane sesquiterpenes [90]. Isofraxidin, scopatone, daturadiol ,1,4-benzenediol, arenarine D, vanillin, N-trans-feruloyl-tyramine, scopoletin , G-sitosterol and hyoscyamilactol were isolated from the seeds of Datura metel from Xinjiang Province [91].…”

“…The non-alkaloid water-soluble fraction of yangjinhua mediates the clinical effects on psoriasis and has antiinflammatory, anti-titillation of skin, and anti-anaphylaxis actions . We previously isolated flavonoids and withanolides from this fraction, including kaempferol, kaempferol-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside, kaempferol-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, baimantuoluosines A-F, and baimantuoluosides A-C (Yang et al, 2006(Yang et al, , 2007Kuang et al, 2008Kuang et al, , 2009.…”
