Chemical Composition, Antioxidant, Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Proliferative Activities of Essential Oils of Plants from Burkina Faso

Abstract: This research highlights the chemical composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activities of essential oils from leaves of Ocimum basilicum, Ocimum americanum, Hyptis spicigera, Lippia multiflora, Ageratum conyzoides, Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Zingiber officinale. Essential oils were analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and gas chromatography–flame ionization detector. Major constituents were α-terpineol (59.78%) and β-caryophyllene (10.54%) for Ocimum basilicum; 1, 8-c… Show more

“…Uncontrolled growth due to external factors and internal factors within the biological systems that finally results in death of cells or stopping functionality of components within systems is termed as cancer. Plants have many phytoconstituents like alkaloids, flavonoids, coumarins, polyphenols etc., possesses good antitumor properties [17][18] . In the present decades, in silico docking approaches are providing exploring information through the studies of physicochemical characteristics like angiogenesis, diabetes, growth and repair of cancerous cells.…”

“…Essential oils (EOs) are volatile, complex compounds characterized by a strong odor and are formed by aromatic plants as secondary metabolites. They have been widely used as antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antioxidant and in cosmetic and food industries [49]. Priya et al [35] studied the chemical composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of the hydro-distillated essential oil of Murraya koenigii leaves from the south region of Tamilnadu, India.…”

“…Essential oils (EO) are volatile compounds produced by plants that present different biological activities including antitumor effect [13,14]. Although essential oils also seem to have anti-MDR activity and induce death of resistant cells [14] their anti-MDR activity still needs to be better understood/explored.…”
