Two experiments were conducted using broiler chicks to evaluate naked oats (Avena nuda L.) as a potential feed ingredient. Experiment 1 was designed to provide the chemical composition of naked oats (NO) and assess its metabolizable energy. Naked oats contained a low concentration of avenin and was superior to corn with respect to the amino acid profile and mineral content. The total lipid content of NO (6.85%) with 30.9% linoleic acid was higher than that of most cereal grains and contributed to a relatively high metabolizable energy value of 3.18 kcal/g. The NO had .4% phosphorus with a total phytic acid concentration of 1.07%.In Experiment 2, broiler chicks were fed diets containing 0 to 69% NO from day-old to 7 weeks of age. Body weight at 3 weeks was significantly depressed in birds fed the oat-soybean diet (69% NO). This trend continued to market age, but a significant difference in body weight was not detected at 7 weeks. Increased abdominal fat was evident in birds fed 40% NO. Shrinkage, dressing percentage, carcass water uptake, skin dry matter, and skin color were not significantly affected by dietary treatments. Bone strength, evaluated in a three-point loading flexure test, declined as the amount of NO increased in the diet. It is suggested that phosphorus deficiency is precipitated by the relatively high phytic acid content of the oat-soybean diet. Naked oats may be used at 40% inclusion in broiler diets wim no adverse effect on growth, feed efficiency, shrinkage, dressing percentage or bone strength. (

imited research suggests the effect of brown seaweed in animal nutrition for improving gut health and performance, but there isn't any research suggests the effect of oral liquid seaweeds brown algae in broiler nutrition. So, this study was aimed to evaluate the effect of liquid brown seaweed algae (Ascophyllum nodosum) supplementation on broiler chick's performance and their intestine histology. The experimental chicks (total number of 120, one-day old, Indian River chicks) were used and fed the same diets during the experimental period (1-35 days). Brown seaweed algae were added in fresh water at the concentrations of 0 and 1 ml/ liter fresh water. Results indicated that chicks received 1 ml liquid brown algae/1 liter of drinking fresh water had the greatest body weight gain, better feed conversion ratio, significant increases in total protein, albumin, and globulin and significantly decreases in total lipids and total cholesterol than that in the control chicks. On the other hands, water consumption and relative weight of carcass were not significantly affected by the algae supplementation. Histological observations concluded that birds, which received brown algae in drinking fresh water, had better intestinal health in terms of welldeveloped villi with their columnar epithelial lining, which indicative of an increase of the digestive and absorptive surface area leading to better nutrient utilization. These results suggested that liquid brown algae have a beneficial effects on the growth performance, intestinal development without any side effects and we can replace it with powder brown algae in broiler chicks, but we need more researches to confirm this item.

RESUMO -Este experimento foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da inclusão de Egeria densa na ração sobre o consumo voluntário, o ganho de peso e a conversão alimentar de ovinos Santa Inês. Dezesseis ovinos foram distribuídos ao acaso em quatro tratamentos: T0 = 81% de feno de tifton (FT) e 19% de concentrado (farelo de soja e milho); T27 = 27% de feno de Egeria (FE), 54% de FT e 19% de concentrado; T54 -54% de FE, 27% de FT e 19% de concentrado e T81 = 81% de FE e 19% de concentrado. Verificou-se que o consumo voluntário foi reduzido, e o ganho de peso, quando analisado todo o período experimental, não foi afetado pela adição de feno de Egeria. Durante o período experimental, verificouse que o ganho de peso foi uniforme nos animais que receberam as dietas sem e com 27% feno de Egeria. Quando as dietas continham 54 e 81% de feno de Egeria, o ganho de peso apresentou comportamento quadrático. Apesar da alta concentração de alguns elementos minerais, a Egeria tem potencial como forrageira para ovinos, desde que seja fornecida em baixa proporção na ração ou por curto período.Palavras-chave: consumo, degradabilidade, ganho de peso, minerais, Santa Inês, toxidez Egeria densa Hay Inclusion in Ration for SheepABSTRACT -Sixteen Santa Inês sheep were randomly allotted to four treatments (T0 = 81% tifton hay (TH) and 19% concentrate (soybean meal and corn); T27 = 27% egeria hay (EH), 54% TH and 19% concentrate; T81 = 81% EH and 19% concentrate) to evaluate the effect of Egeria hay inclusion in the diet on voluntary intake, weight gain and feed efficiency. Voluntary intake reduced and body weight gain was not affected by EH inclusion. During the experimental period, weight gain was similar for the animals fed diet without or with 27% EH. EH inclusion (at levels of 54 and 81%) affected quadractricaly body weight gain.
