Changing the Prognosis of Metastatic Cervix Uteri Adenosquamous Carcinoma through a Multimodal Approach: A Case Report

Abstract: Adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma (AS) are 2 rare histological types of cervix uteri cancer constituting almost 20% of all cervix cancers, leading to a lack in patient management guidelines. We report the case of a 32-year-old woman with an oligometastatic cervix AS for which a multimodal treatment approach was used. Despite the patient’s bad prognosis, a complete response was achieved, which further resulted in excellent local control and prolonged survival. This case report serves the purpose of enc… Show more

“…As for the treatment of EMP, a local approach is considered the most suitable and with increased chances of success rate. Unlike in other radioresistant tumors (eg, cervix uteri, colorectal) 15,16 that showed unpredictable radiation response, for plasmacytoma previously published data showed a more favorable outcome even at lower radiation doses. Therefore, surgery or local radiotherapy have been associated with encouraging results in previously published studies 17 leading to high 10 years local control (>70%) and OS (>50%) survival rates.…”

“…The incidence of cervical adenocarcinoma and other type epithelial cancer, including adenosquamous carcinoma, was approximately 20-30% of cervical cancer. Both are rarely found so that guidelines in the management of therapy have not been established yet (Molijn et al 2016, Georgescu et al 2020. However, the incidence of cervical adenocarcinoma tends to increase, including in 13 European countries (Bray et al 2005), as well as in the Netherlands (Horst et al 2017).…”

In the last decades, the incidence of squamous cell carcinoma tends to decrease, but adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma tend to increase (Gien et al 2010, Zhang et al 2020. Recently, both adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma is still treated in the same way as squamous cell carcinoma, although it has a different microscopic appearance.…”
