Changes in the Use of Agricultural Land in Poland and Czech Republic

Abstract: This article raises the issue of changes in the structure of agricultural land use in Poland and the Czech Republic since the accession of both countries into the structures of the European Union. An important question raised in this article is the analysis of changes in the area structure of agricultural holdings according to the adopted agricultural land groups. The analyses were based on the graphic method of analysing the concentration strength, i.e. the Lorenz curve, to determine the distribution of the n… Show more

“…In our study, honey from the Czech Republic was used, which is typically affected by large-scale farming [ 28 ]. In comparison, honey can be collected also from country with fragmented agricultural activity [ 65 ], from national parks [ 66 , 67 ] or other region with high floral diversity, where typically one family is represented by multiple species, wild cultivars and endemism. These types of honey are also typical by high content of pollen with similar shape, polar and equatorial length, P/E, and pollen ornamentation.…”

“…Farming is concentrated in more fertile areas. The agriculturally marginal areas include grasslands in the areas of higher altitudes, with steeper gradient and worse soil quality [54]. Four major forest types, corresponding to phytosociological associations, can be distinguished in the Czech Republic: Hercynian, widespread in the Bohemian Massif (Melampyro nemorosi-Carpinetum); Pannonian, confined to southern Moravia (Primulo veris-Carpinetum); Carpathian, common in eastern and central Moravia (Tilio cordatae-Carpinetum); and wet habitat type, occurring mainly on soft bedrocks in eastern Bohemia, northern Moravia and Silesia (Stellario holosteae-Carpinetum) [55].…”

“…Neighbouring countries also have a similar climatic and botanical character, but differ in their agricultural activity. Agricultural structure in Poland, Austria, and Germany is more fragmented [54]. This has increased biodiversity in these regions.…”

“…Agricultural policy represents one of the methods of state intervention in market mechanisms, which is practically observed in various forms all over the world [50,51]. Nowadays, it results more from the need to counteract undesirable processes related to excessive concentration and land use for The production of feed crops in Ukraine in 2018 took only 6.6% of the agricultural land area: technical crops-33.4%; cereal and grain legume crops-53.6%.…”
