“…Demo et al (1998) measured 1328 ppm a-tocopherol in dry leaves, and it has been reported that this level may increase during winter (Gó mez-Coronado and Barbas, 2003). Conversely, the low value (12.6 mg/100 g fresh leaves) obtained by Marero et al (1986) was probably due to the analytical tools used, or to the stage development and sampling period. The accumulation of atocopherol during the vegetation period in tree leaves, especially in sun leaves, has been reported by many studies (Chrost et al, 1999;Munne-Bosch and Alegre, 2002).…”

“…Ranges were from 30.8 to 272.8 mg of R-tocopherol/100 g of fresh leaves and from 0.3 to 2.1 mg of γ-tocopherol/100 g of fresh leaves. The value obtained for R-tocopherol in bay is considerably higher than the value obtained by Marero et al, which was 12.6 mg of R-tocopherol/100 g of fresh leaves (14), probably because analytical tools have improved. On the other hand, the high values obtained by Demo et al (15) in a hexanic extract by HPLC with UV detection seem to be related with the possible overlapping of chlorophyll with R-tocopherol in such conditions.…”

“…Coriander from Malaysia revealed higher α-tocopherol levels (53 mg/100 g dw; data calculated from fresh weight (fw) and moisture content available), but lower δ-tocopherol (0.1 mg/100 g dw) and γ-tocopherols (0.7 mg/100 g dw) levels [1]. Otherwise, Marero et al [16] reported almost no tocopherols in coriander. Tocopherols inhibit lipid peroxidation processes of polyunsaturated fatty acids and other compounds in cell membranes, mainly due to their lipid soluble antioxidant properties [15].…”

“…The pH of the culture medium was adjusted to 5.7 before autoclaving. The culture conditions were T min [16][17][18][19]°C, T max [23-26]°C, photoperiod of 16/8 h (light/dark) supplied by light-bulbs Silvana day light (Phillips, Amsterdam, Netherlands). After five weeks, the shoots were excised from the young plants and inoculated in a modified culture medium, MS with 0.1 mg/l IBA and 0.1 mg/l BAP, pH 5.5.…”
