Changes in Bone Turnover Induced by Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercise in Young Males

Abstract: Physical activity is considered an important factor in attaining bone mass. However, the mechanisms by which exercise affects bone metabolism are not completely understood. The present study was performed to investigate the effects of aerobic and anaerobic exercise on bone turnover. Twenty healthy young males (aged 20 -29 years) were followed through an 8-week program of aerobic (n ‫؍‬ 10) and anaerobic training (n ‫؍‬ 10). Ten age-matched individuals served as controls. Serum bone-specific alkaline phosphatas… Show more

“…Fujimura et al [31], using resistance exercise, and Woitge et al [32], using aerobic exercise, reported a continuous decrease in DPD, although after a period of time, the subjects reverted back to their baseline values. In other words, DPD exhibits a biological reaction regardless of the type of exercise, and the difference in the regression time is influenced by the intensity of the exercise.…”

“…In this study, the physical abilities related to health were chosen, considering that the majority of the amateur soccer players predominantly seek the improvement of the physical ability. There is evidence (31,33) that the training programs with exercises conducted at least three times per week for periods longer than six weeks, presented satisfactory responses in the physical performance, especially in the aerobic ability (32) . In the case of the suggested protocol to G1, a training program was used with the purpose to reach an improvement in the nutritional status and in the physical ability related to health, considering the routine sedentary status in which the selected individuals were in.…”
