Cell Mediated Lympholysis in Man. The HL‐A Third Locus Antigen, AJ (W20) as Sensitizing and/or Target Determinant

Abstract: The Indirect Cell Mediated Lympholysis (ICML) test has become a reliable in uitro tool in investigations of the immunogenetic background of the cellular immune response. I t is well established that the antigens of the LA and FOUR loci of the human Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) or antigens governed by closely linked loci exhibiting a marked linkage disequilibrium are of major qualitative and quantitative importance in ICML.This communication is concerned with the importance of the HL-A third series an… Show more

“…(2) The variance may be caused by the influence of the third series antigens, which we have neglected in this study. This explanation, however, may have minor importance because another study (Kristensen et al 1975a) shows that the AJ antigen of the third series does not seem to have an independent function, but most probably only a modifying effect on antigens from the FOUR series.…”

“…It is thus conceivable that HLA-C antigens may explain at least some of our findings. The impact of HLA-C antigens in CML has so far only been investigated by our grodp (Kristensen et al 1975. We found that the HLA-C antigens are generally weak, but that the strength of each antigen must be evaluated separately.…”

“…Arguments into the existence of a separate, unique C-locus in t h e H L A region a n d into alternative genetic organization of this region were brought u p in t h e former communication by Kristensen et al (1975b). These arguments are still valid and recognized.…”
