Causes and Mitigation Strategies of Delay in Power Construction Projects: Gaps between Owners and Contractors in Successful and Unsuccessful Projects

Abstract: Few studies have verified the different causes of project delays between the owner and contractor perspectives. This article’s goal is to find what the causes of delay are and how to mitigate this delay depending on project performance. Thus, this study investigated 82 owner-side experts and 106 contractor-side experts in Tanzanian power construction projects. In successful projects (less than 10% time delay), the owners and contractors weighted similar causes such as vandalism and permits from authorities. Th… Show more

“…This method irrigates and orchestrates design and realization phases as a whole, when necessary. However, as we observed, very diverse fields of skills and competencies are requested [21]. Furthermore, considering systems typologies and complexity levels, some differences between projects appear.…”

“…As we want to apply risk management in special type of construction project (LSF system), some similar works in other types of projects have been hitherto done. Cause of delays in construction projects (Banobi and Jung 2019), investigation of risks magnitude in tunnel and railway projects by three simple risk indices including probability, severity and frequency (Forcael et al 2018), risk analysing in modular construction (Li et al 2013) and determination of risk importance in industrialized building system (IBS) projects (Bari et al 2012) are some instances of risk identification and assessment in special type of projects.…”
