Abstract: The cathodic reduction of O-ethyl S-phenacyl dithiocarbonate (1) yields O-ethyl (benzoyl)-thioacetate (2) and O-ethyl S-[(ethoxythiocarbonyl)(phenacyl)]-dithiocarbonate (3) through an Eschenmoser process with an electrogenerated base (EGB).
