Catalytic Oxidation of Dibenzothiophene Using Cyclohexanone Peroxide

Abstract: The catalytic oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) in decahydronaphthalene (decalin) was performed using the oil-soluble oxidant cyclohexanone peroxide (CYHPO) with a molybdenum oxide (MoO3) catalyst supported on macroporous polyacrylic cationic exchange resin D113 of weak acid series. The influence of the reaction temperature, reaction time, the molar ratio of CYHPO/DBT, and catalyst reuse was investigated in detail. In the presence of the catalyst MoO3/D113, the conversion of DBT to DBT … Show more

“…Their reactivity in the oxidation of sulfur compounds is as follows: cyclohexanone peroxide > tert-amyl hydroperoxide > tert-butyl hydroperoxide. 42 Cyclohexanone peroxide is formed by reaction with hydrogen peroxide, 36 and makes it less competitive than other hydroperoxides which are produced by hydrocarbon autoxidation.…”

“…The active centre of these catalysts is a transition metal in a high oxidation state with Lewis acidity, such as Mo(IV), Ti(IV), V(V), W(IV), among which molybdenum catalysts remain prominent. [170][171][172][173][174][175] However, molybdenum tends to be leached to the reaction medium, where the catalyst is not very stable and the main part of the catalytic activity is due to solubilized molybdenum. Other much more stable catalysts, such as Co/Mn, 171 Ti-silica 169 and Ti-MCM-41 176 catalysts, have been proposed.…”

“…55 Dehkordi et al 56 also reported ODS of non-hydrotreated kerosene using H 2 O 2 and acetic acid. In other studies, the catalysts for ODS contained transition metals: Zhou et al 57 have used MoO 3 . Shiriashi et al used titanium silicate molecular sieve catalysts 58 or provided the photochemical desulfurization.…”
