“…22,23 The Au film deposition on Si does not improve the photocatalytic properties, as Au is catalytically inactive for the HER. 24 Rather, the Au film on Si decreases the photocurrent density (Figure 5a, black line) due to the higher light reflectance, as shown in Figure 4 (compare the gray with black line therein). Moreover, the interface between Au and Si can contribute to the lower current density than that of the bare Si.…”

“…HER has been widely studied on Pd overlayers deposited on different Au single crystals and it was shown that the electronic effect induced between z E-mail: sstrbac@tmf.bg.ac.rs Pd deposit and Au substrate can be tuned by means of different deposition methods and different Pd coverage to achieve higher activity for HER. [5][6][7] Significant improvement of the electrocatalytic activity of Au(111) with Rh overlayer was first predicted theoretically 8,9 and confirmed experimentally. 10 These studies have yielded significant results, showing that Rh/Au(111) electrodes prepared by the facile and fast spontaneous deposition method are highly active for this reaction.…”

“…One of the ways to improve the activity of gold for HER in acid solution is its modification by a submonolayer to monolayer amount of a foreign noble metal (Me), forming Me/Au bimetallic electrodes with unique morphological and catalytic properties. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Since gold is rather inert for HER, the main contribution to the activity of Me/Au bimetallic surfaces comes from a foreign metal. However, Au support does contribute indirectly through the strong electronic interaction with the deposited foreign metal.…”

“…Among the noble-metals that are less expensive than Pt, Au is considered one of the most favourable candidates for HER, because it is catalytically active (also in the form of bimetallic surfaces, e.g. Au/Pd) 83 and is rather stable. 8,[84][85][86][87][88][89] The knowledge of HER on Au electrodes is quite important for the electrocatalytic production of syngas because Au is also one of the most promising electrocatalysts for the reduction of CO2 to CO.…”
