Carcinoma of supernumerary breast of vulva with bilateral mammary cancer

Abstract: Primary mammary cancer often develops at multiple sites in either one or both breasts, evidently the result of a common carcinogen acting in multicentric loci. The occurrence of carcinoma in accessory breast tissue has been recorded, including carcinoma in supernumerary breast tissue within the labium, although the latter is rare. A 62-year-old woman developed carcinoma of the right breast which was followed nearly five and one half years later by the occurrence of adenocarcinoma in supernumerary breast tissue… Show more

“…[28][29][30] Most of those lesions are epithelial, representing either well-defined entities or corresponding to various changes resembling those seen in benign breast disease, as is, for example, sclerosing adenosis. 1,[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][13][14][15][16][17][19][20][21][22][23][24][25]27,30,31 We present three cases of lesions involving anogenital mammarylike glands demonstrating a stromal change identical to that known in mammary pathology as pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia (PASH), a feature not previously recognized in this location, to our knowledge.…”

“…This is important because of the following reasons: (1) The supernu¬ merary breasts in females may re¬ spond to fluctuation in hormones in a physiologic manner, so that pubertal enlargement, premenstrual swelling, tenderness, and lactation during preg¬ nancy and parturition may occur.6 (2) They may be subject to the same dis¬ eases as normal breasts, including tu¬ mors, such as fibroadenoma,4 papillary adenoma,9 cysts,1 or carcinoma. 5 (3) They may be associated with other congenital diseases, such as vertebral anomalies,10 cardiac arrhythmias,11 or renal anomalies.12…”

“…Other possible etiology could be the presence of ectopic breast tissue in the vulva with inguinal nodal involvement, a condition that has been described in under 15 cases till date [8,9]. Management essentially remains the same, apart from tailoring the surgery to radical vulvectomy and ilioinguinal nodal dissection and adjuvant RT.…”
