RESUMO A mancha bacteriana do tomateiro, causada Xanthomonas spp. pode provocar perdas significativas na produção da cultura. O controle da doença é difícil e produtos alternativos devem ser avaliados. Portanto, os objetivos do trabalho foram avaliar a inibição do crescimento de Xanthomonas spp. in vitro e o intervalo de aplicação de óleos essenciais, no controle da mancha bacteriana do tomateiro. Para avaliação do halo de inibição do crescimento de Xanthomonas spp. in vitro foram empregados óleos essenciais de cravo da índia (Syzygium aromaticum) e erva cidreira (Melissa officinalis), Tween 20%, hidróxido de cobre e água. Para o controle da mancha bacteriana, plantas de tomate foram inicialmente pulverizadas com os produtos; três dias após foram inoculadas por aspersão com uma suspensão bacteriana (107 UFC mL-1), e a cada intervalo de 3, 6, 9 ou 12 dias, as plantas foram novamente pulverizadas com os produtos. A severidade da doença foi avaliada, calculando-se a área abaixo da curva de progresso da severidade da doença. Os óleos essenciais de cravo da índia e erva cidreira, e o hidróxido de cobre, nas concentrações 100 e 10% inibiram o crescimento de Xanthomonas spp. in vitro. Da mesma forma, os óleos essenciais quando aplicados em intervalos de três e seis dias reduziram a severidade da mancha bacteriana do tomateiro, sendo promissores no controle da doença.

The aim of the present studies was to evaluate the effects of treatments with essential oil emulsion on the sanitary and physiological quality of creole corn seeds. In the studies were evaluated the essential oils of neem (Azadirachta indica), citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), lemon balm (Cymbopogon citratus), melissa (Melissa officinalis L.), and the combinations neem-citronella, neem-lemon balm, neem-melissa, citronella-lemon balm, citronella-melissa and lemon balm-melissa. The tests carried out were germination, length of seedlings (aerial part and root), dry mass and pathology for Fusarium sp. and Aspergillus sp. in seeds of creole corn produced without the use of synthetic pesticides. The studies were carried out in vitro and consisted of the preparation of water emulsion, 5,000 ppm of essential oil and 1% of triton X100 and direct application on the seeds of creole corn, following the protocol of Rules of Seed Analysis (RSA). The results showed a significant decrease in the occurrence of fungi Fusarium sp. and Aspergillus sp. with treatment with essential oils of citronella, lemon balm and melissa, while the oil of neither reduced the occurrence of Fusarium sp., but increased the occurrence of Aspergillus sp. in almost four times. All binary combinations of essential oils reduced the occurrence of both fungi. On the other hand, the physiological quality was strongly affected by the death of creole corn seeds, except for the treatment with lemon balm essential oil. Therefore, these studies allow to affirm that essential oils can be efficient in the control of pathogens, however they can kill the seeds of creole corn.

Lippia alba hydrolate (LAH) is produced as a secondary product in essential oil extraction. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of LAH in a simulation of the transport of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) juveniles. A series of 17 hr simulations were performed using load densities of 30, 60 and 90 juveniles per L and four LAH concentrations of 0.4%, 1%, 2% and 5%, with a control of just water. Fish survival, temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, pH, ammonia excretion, alkalinity water hardness and net Na+, K+, Cl‐ fluxes, were all evaluated before and after the transport simulations. Mucous cell densities in the gills were also determined microscopically, post simulation. The results showed that addition of 5% LAH achieved better survival during the simulation than the water control. Dissolved oxygen was significantly lower with an increased load density. Also, conductivity, NH4 excretion and net ionic fluxes (K+ and Cl−) were lower with 5% LAH, although mainly where higher load densities were tested. Mucous cell density was lower in LAH concentrations of 2% and 5%, again with higher load densities. In view of these findings, it is suggested that 5% LAH is an effective sedative for use in the transport of tambaqui, mainly with high load densities. This work is the first study of LAH and highlights its potential applications in aquaculture management.
