Caracterização de amostras comerciais de vermicomposto de esterco bovino e avaliação da influência do pH e do tempo na adsorção de Co(II), Zn(II) and Cu(II)

Abstract: (II), Zn(II) and Cu(II) ADSORPTION. Some commercial samples of vermicompost from bovine manure (humus) were characterized by thermogravimetry with respect to humidity, organic matter and ash contents, the percentages of which range from 6.55 to 5.35%, 53.01 to 69.96% and 46.44 to 66,14%, respectively. The capacity of adsorption of Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ and Co 2+ ions by these samples has been evaluated as a function of pH and time. The contents of several metal ions in the original vermicompost samples have been d… Show more

“…The waste decomposition and transformation process in most treatments resulted in C/N ratio of approximately 12/1 (Table 1), which is below the 18/1 ratio that, according to Kiehl (1985), indicates compound maturity. Results similar to those found in the current study were recorded by Soares et al (2004), who found values between 9.02 and 13.74. Antoniolli et al (2002) studied several vermicomposts exclusively derived from cattle manure produced in different counties in Rio Grande do Sul State and found C/N variations between 7 and 33.…”

“…In addition, pH or temperature increases shift the chemical balance towards non-ionized ammonia (REIS; MENDONÇA, 2009). However, Soares et al (2004) stated that pH values close to neutrality suggest that the vermicompost may present aciditycorrection action when it is incorporated to the soil, since it shows buffering property. Soares (2004) conducted the chemical featuring of a commercial vermicompost and recorded phosphorus values ranging from 1.0% to 1.2% in the analyzed samples; these values were lower than those found in the current study (Table 1).…”

“…Close to neutrality pH values suggest that vermicompost can have corrective action in the soil, since it can be incorporated therein (Soares et al, 2004). The pH results obtained by Valente et al (2013) in a commercial vermicomposts study varied according to composition.…”
