The objective was to evaluate the effect of microbial phytase (1250 FTU/kg diet with 88% dry matter (DM)) on apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of phosphorus (P) in pigs fed a dry or soaked diet. Twenty-four pigs (65 ± 3 kg) from six litters were used. Pigs were housed in metabolism crates and fed one of four diets for 12 days; 5 days for adaptation and 7 days for total, but separate collection of feces and urine. The basal diet was composed of wheat, barley, maize, soybean meal and no mineral phosphate. Dietary treatments were: basal dry-fed diet (BDD), BDD with microbial phytase (BDD + phy), BDD soaked for 24 h at 20°C before feeding (BDS) and BDS with microbial phytase (BDS + phy). Supplementation of microbial phytase increased ATTD of DM and crude protein (N × 6.25) by 2 and 3 percentage units (P < 0.0001; P < 0.001), respectively. The ATTD of P was affected by the interaction between microbial phytase and soaking (P = 0.02). This was due to a greater increase in ATTD of P by soaking of the diet containing solely plant phytase compared with the diet supplemented with microbial phytase: 35%, 65%, 44% and 68% for BDD, BDD + phy, BSD and BSD + phy, respectively. As such, supplementation of microbial phytase increased ATTD of P in the dry-fed diet, but not in the soaked diet. The higher ATTD of P for BDS compared with BDD resulted from the degradation of 54% of the phytate in BDS by wheat and barley phytases during soaking. On the other hand, soaking of BDS + phy did not increase ATTD of P significantly compared with BDD + phy despite that 76% of the phytate in BDS + phy was degraded before feeding. In conclusion, soaking of BDS containing solely plant phytase provided a great potential for increasing ATTD of P. However, this potential was not present when microbial phytase (1250 FTU/kg diet) was supplemented, most likely because soaking of BDS + phy for 24 h at 20°C did not result in a complete degradation of phytate before feeding.

RESUMO -Avaliaram-se dois modelos matemáticos no estudo do fluxo de fósforo no metabolismo de suínos com os objetivos de destacar o modelo mais eficiente e indicar a fonte de fósforo com maior potencial para uso na nutrição de suínos.Foram usados 21 suínos, híbridos machos castrados com peso médio inicial de 32 kg, alimentados com dietas formuladas à base de milho, farelo de soja e óleo vegetal, suplementadas com fosfato bicálcico; fosfato monobicálcico; superfosfato triplo; superfosfato simples; ácido fosfórico ou fosfato de rocha catalão como fontes de fósforo. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, com sete dietas e três repetições, com um animal por unidade experimental. Para o desenvolvimento dos dois modelos, foram utilizados dados de metabolismo e cinética de fósforo nos tecidos, obtidos pela técnica de diluição isotópica. Os modelos apresentaram similaridade e eficiência na determinação das estimativas do fluxo de fósforo nos compartimentos anatômicos. O superfosfato simples e o fosfato bicálcico têm maior potencial para uso em dietas para suínos em crescimento. Entretanto, o fosfato bicálcico apresenta melhor ajuste nos modelos e serve como padrão para nutrição de suínos em crescimento.Palavras-chave: diluição isotópica, fósforo endógeno, metabolismo, modelo matemático, radiofósforo Comparison and application of two mathematical models in the study of the phosphorus in pig metabolismABSTRACT -The aim in this work was to evaluate two mathematical models on the study of the flow of the phosphorus in metabolism of swines aiming at highlighting the most efficient model and indicating the highest potential phosphosrus source to be used in nutrition for swines. It was used 21 hybrid barrow at 32 kg initial weight fed diets based on corn, soybean meal and vegetal oil, supplemented with dicalcium phosphate, monodicalcium phosphate, triple superphosphate, simple superphosphate, Catalão rock phosphate or phosphoric acid as sources of phosphorus. The experiment was arranged in randomized blocks, with seven treatments and three replicates and one animal per experimental unity. Metabolism data and kinetics of phosphorus in tissues obtained by the isotopic dilution technique were used for development of the two models. The models presented similarity and efficiency in the determination of the estimates of the phosphorus flow in the anatomical compartments. Simple superphosphate and dicalcium phosphate have more potential to be used in growing swines. However, dicalcium phosphate presentes better adjustment in the models and it can be used as a standard for nutrition of growing swines.

RESUMO -A pesquisa destinou-se a simular modelos matemáticos relacionados ao fluxo de fósforo (P), partindo-se das hipóteses de que o P endógeno do trato digestivo foi absorvido na mesma proporção do P alimentar e o fluxo de entrada e de saída desse mineral nos compartimentos foi constante. Foram avaliadas as variáveis absorção, retenção, P endógeno que retorna ao trato gastrintestinal, P dietético absorvido, incorporação, reabsorção e balanço de P no osso e nos tecidos moles e P proveniente do osso, dos tecidos moles e do total absorvido, que retorna ao trato gastrintestinal, em suínos em crescimento, alimentados com dietas contendo P de diferentes fontes de fosfato. O modelo usado foi determinístico e compartimental, em que o trato gastrintestinal (C1), os ossos (C2) e os tecidos moles, fígado, coração, rim e músculo, estudados em conjunto (C3), representaram os compartimentos. Foram utilizadas informações sobre metabolismo e cinética do fósforo em tecidos, obtidas pela técnica da diluição isotópica. Constatou-se que as hipóteses estabelecidas no modelo estão coerentes e os valores obtidos se ajustam ao fluxo do fósforo em suínos; as variáveis P consumido, P endógeno, que retorna ao trato gastrintestinal, P absorvido de origem dietética, retenção de P, incorporação, reabsorção e balanço de P do osso e dos demais tecidos e fração de P do total absorvido que retorna ao trato gastrintestinal não foram influenciadas pelas fontes suplementares de fósforo; a origem do fósforo dietético pode interferir na distribuição do P nos tecidos, após o processo de absorção desse mineral; e o P proveniente do absorvido que retorna ao trato gastrintestinal foi proporcional ao P consumido.Palavras-chave: absorção real, cinética, incorporação de fósforo, metabolismo mineral, perdas endógenas, radiofósforo Model of the Biological Flow of Phosphorus from Phosphate Sources in Pig, Using 32 P as MarkerABSTRACT -The experiment was designed to simulate the mathematical models that relate to the phophorus (P) flow, considering the hypotheses that the endogenous phosphorus from digestive tract was absorbed in the same proportion of the dietary phosphorus and that the input and output flow of this mineral in the compartments was constant.
