Broadband Flexible Fully Textile-Integrated Bandstop Frequency Selective Surface

Abstract: A broadband flexible fully textile-integrated bandstop frequency selective surface working at a central frequency of 5 GHz and presenting a 1.8 GHz bandwidth has been designed, manufactured and experimentally characterised. The frequency selective surface consists of two isolated layers of periodic square-shaped conductive rings and, due to its symmetries, its performance is largely independent of polarisation and angle of incidence. The textile frequency selective surface has been simulated and experimentally… Show more

“…The theory already presented in the previous sections has been put into practice in different works developed by the authors. Partial results have already been presented in these works [34]- [38], not only verifying the theory underneath, but also justifying the necessity of the development and the analysis of these complex woven structures. The most representative results are summarized in the following subsections.…”

“…As a consequence, a first approach to study the behavior of conductive threads has already been introduced in [33]. Additionally, the authors have previously presented some partial results of the characterization and analysis of woven structures using simplified procedures in [34]- [38]. Finally, in this paper, a complete and enhanced parametric characterization and corresponding electromagnetic analysis are presented and validated using different examples.…”

“…Since the area of the RFID sensor chip is small, the size of the entire RFID sensor is determined by the size of the antenna. In order to study RFID sensors of small size, the use of textile technology to weave RFID sensors are introduced [80,81,82,83,84,85]. Textile integrated RFID has the advantages of low cost, durability, and the separation of textile and RFID chip manufacturing, making mass production fast.…”

“…In recent literature, various planar and conformal FSS geometries are reported. In [8], A broadband flexible textileintegrated band stop FSS is presented. This large FSS achieves stable shielding response with a limited conformability.…”

“…Each shield contains 25 × 25 unit elements and is placed between transmitting and receiving horn antennas. These horns are designed and optimized to operate in X-band (8)(9)(10)(11)(12). FE-BI boundary conditions are assigned to PFSS array/shield and both horn antennas.…”
