Aim This study aims to investigate the difference in maternal attachment in different scenarios, that is among mothers who breastfed their infants and mothers who combined breastfeeding with other types of feeding and determine the predictors of maternal attachment in breastfeeding mothers. Design A survey was used to collect data from 222 mothers from Jordan University of Science and Technology in Jordan. Method Who used breastfeeding or mixed methods and had healthy infants aged from 3 to 12 months and who did not have postpartum complications. The survey was conducted in three healthcare centres in Irbid city, Jordan. Results Mothers only breastfeed their infants did not differ in their attachment compared with those who used mixed feeding methods (using breastfeeding with formula feeding). Many factors showed significant impact on maternal attachment, which includes the mother's education, if they have assistance in caring for their infant, marital relationship quality, the infant's gender and the planning for pregnancy.

BackgroundGrandmothers are important to successful breastfeeding because their knowledge, attitudes and experiences influence adolescent mothers’ decision to initiate and to continue breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of an experiential learning with empowerment strategies and social support (ELESSS) programme for grandmothers according to improvements in the rate and duration of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF); knowledge and attitude (KA) regarding breastfeeding; and perceived social support among adolescent mothers.MethodsA quasi-experimental study was conducted in two hospitals, Banmi as an intervention hospital and Inburi as a control hospital, between May 2015 and March 2016. Forty-two pairs of adolescent mothers and grandmothers were recruited from each hospital. At the baseline, grandmothers in the intervention group attended 2 days of an ELESSS programme, and they attended a refresher course 2 and 4 months after delivery. The grandmothers in the control group and adolescent mothers in both groups received the routine programme. Participants were assessed at the baseline and at two and 6 months after delivery to determine the rate and duration of EBF, KA regarding breastfeeding and perceived social support.ResultsAdolescent mothers in the intervention group had the EBF rate at 6 months of around 29%, whereas the control group had the EBF rate at 6 months of about 5%, and the proportion of EBF in the intervention group was six times that of the control group. The median EBF duration in the intervention group was 90 days, while the control group was 0 day. A repeated measure ANOVA analysis showed that the intervention group’s participants had significantly better knowledge and attitudes towards breastfeeding, while the adolescent mothers in the intervention group had a significantly higher perceived level of social support.ConclusionThe ELESSS programme proved to be effective in increasing the rate and duration of EBF in adolescent mothers. Grandmothers are key to promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.in.th: TCTR20161001002

Health education in the digital era requires one social media, namely WhatsApp as an information media that is considered effective and efficient. Thus, parents get health education through WhatsApp in the Sekolah Keluarga Balita (SKB) online learning activities with the agreed time. This study aims to determine the knowledge of parents about the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK) through the SKB online learning that used WhatsApp. The research method used description with a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted in March 2020 among parents of toddlers living in the fostered villages of Kampung Bestari Astra (KBA) as many as 150 people. The sampling technique was used accidental sampling. This questionnaire was given to the respondent in the form of bit.ly/ (google form). This questionnaire was filled out by respondents before being given a health education video. Data analysis using univariate have presented in the form of a frequency distribution table. The results showed that most participants in the Joint Decree were 135 people, with the age of 20-35 years as many as 60 people, and 78 parents were unfavorable knowledge. The conclusion in this study that some parents aged 20-35 years have less knowledge about the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK) so that health education is needed in a Toddler Family School (SKB) online using WhatsApp.
