En este contexto, el objetivo de esta investigación es analizar cómo se forma la imagen cognitiva de los destinos de interior desde la perspectiva de 2 grupos, residentes y visitantes. Para ello, se ha desarrollado un estudio basado en la realización de 933 encuestas personales en 4 regiones turísticas españolas de interior. Los resultados obtenidos proporcionan información útil para que los organismos encargados de la gestión del destino turístico puedan conocer sobre qué pilares concretos se debe trabajar para mejorar la imagen de estos destinos y generar ventajas competitivas. In this context, the aim of this research is to analyze how the cognitive image of the interior destinations is formed from the perspective of two groups: residents and visitors. For this, a study was developed, based on a survey consisting of 933 personal interviews in the four interior tourist regions. Adicionalmente, es necesario tener en cuenta que los atributos valorables de los lugares turísticos difieren según se trate de destinos de sol y playa o de interior, entre otros. De cualquier forma, conseguir un posicionamiento apropiado y diferente es un reto importante para los organismos encargados de la gestión del destino turístico. Una adecuada gestión de las percepciones o imágenes que un turista potencial puede tener sobre un destino contribuye a crear un posicionamiento diferente (Stepchenkova y Morrison, 2008).
