Background Severe acute respiratory syndrome‐coronavirus‐2 (SARS‐CoV‐2; COVID‐19), which causes coronavirus disease 2019, is highly contagious and a particularly popular problem in all around the world and also in all departments of every hospital. Aims Protecting the well‐being of the aesthetic dermatologists while providing a sufficient workforce is vital for pandemic planning. Results and Conclusions In this article, we will discuss this problem from an aesthetic dermatology aspect and we will review whether these procedures are safe or not.

“…Nasilenie objawów oceniono po 3 tygodniach od iniekcji za pomocą trzech różnych skal: Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, Montgomery Åsberg Depression Rating Scale oraz Beck Depression Inventory. Zaobserwowano u większości pacjentów poprawę ocenianych parametrów oraz spadek nasilenia objawów o ok. 27% w całej badanej grupie osób, a efekt ten był niezależny od płci [21]. Pojedyncze opisy przypadków wskazują również na możliwość zastosowania toksyny botulinowej u pacjentów z depresją dwubiegunową.…”

The possibilities of using botulinum toxin beyond the dermatology · Botulinum toxin which is a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, is one of the most active and best-known biological toxins. Its mechanism of action is associated with proteolysis of specific proteins and prevention of release acetylocholine at presynaptic terminals in neuromuscular junctions. Botulinum toxin is mainly used in aesthetic medicine for reduction of wrinkles and in excessive sweating. Recently, it has been also used beyond the dermatology e.g. in the treatment of migraines, dystonia, bruxism or overactive bladder. Moreover, its beneficial effects on reducing depression and weight loss in obese people are currently investigated in observation and clinical trials.

“…The therapeutic implication of Omega sign is rapidly gaining popularity in the form of botulinum toxin injections in the glabellar area, leading to a reduction of depressive symptoms, especially in cases of blepharospasm. [910] The most plausible and widely accepted explanation for this therapeutic effect is “the facial feedback hypothesis” ( first proposed by Charles Darwin and William James), which postulates that facial expression influences emotional perception, thus regulating our mood state. [11] Alternative explanations include elevation in mood because of improved social connectivity and feedback because of a more positive reciprocal firing of mirror neurons.…”
