Bladder dysfunction in type 2 diabetic patients

Abstract: DC was the most frequent finding in patients. Ageing, duration of diabetes, worse metabolic control, PVR 100 ml, cardiac, esophageal and gastric parasympathetic autonomic neuropathies, retinopathy, and microalbuminuria provided a means to predict BD in patients in order to investigate by urodynamics. The establishment of DC in at least 8-9 years after the diagnosis of type 2 DM was an important parameter to inform our diabetic patients.

“…These two conditions frequently coexist in the same person, giving rise to great economic and social costs, as well as negatively affecting quality of life. Kebapci et al 18 observed that diabetic cystopathy was the most frequent finding among patients with urinary incontinence, and that it could become established eight or nine years after the initial diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. These authors also demonstrated that the factors predicting the development of diabetic cystopathy were aging, duration of diabetes, retinopathy and microalbuminuria.…”

“…Non-infectious cystitis can be a complication of autoimmune diseases outside the bladder [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Bladder-originated autoimmunity is also apparent among non-infectious cystitis.…”

“…Indeed, it was previously demonstrated that systemic diseases, such as hypertension, has been shown to be another factor related with nocturia both in normal [7][8][9][10] and in patients with T2DM. [12][13][14] However, in all these studies, peripheral BP measurements were evaluated. However, it is now apparent that apart from peripheral BP, central hemodynamic parameters are important for cardiovascular prognosis.…”

“…Indeed not in all, 11 but some studies have shown that T2DM is associated with nocturia. [12][13][14] The presence of hypertension is common in patients with T2DM. 15 It is also now clear that, apart from peripheral BP, central hemodynamic parameters are important for cardiovascular prognosis.…”
