Biphenylene mit stark trapezförmig verzerrtem Vierring

Abstract

: x = -Die Umsetzung der Dibromverbindung 6 rnit Thioharnstoff zum Dithiol 7 und die anschlieRende Oxidation rnit H202 leiden unter der geringen Stabilitat von 7. Im Massenspektrum des rohen Syntheseprodukts beobachteten wir jedoch uberraschenderweise Anzeichen fur die Existenz des Monosulfids 3 rnit kurzerer Briicke. Molekiilmodell-Betrachtungen hatten 3 so gespannt erscheinen lassen, daR seine direkte Entstehung in einer einfachen Einstufensynthese nicht erwartet wurde. Durch die Bildung von 3 als Nebenprodukt von 2 ermutigt, wurden die Dibromverbindung 6 (oder einfacher das bei deren Herstellung anfallende Gemisch von 1,8-( 6 ) und 1,5-l~omer'~? mit Natriumsulfid bei Gegenwart von Cs2C03 nach dem Verdiinnungsprinzip ~mgesetzt~~l. Dabei wurde das gespannte Sulfid 3 in 24% Ausbeute erhalten. Oxidation rnit H202 lieferte das Sulfon 4 in iiber 90% Ausbeute.

On replacing the toluene by benzene, but keeping the other reaction conditions unchanged, the amount of 16 is greatly increased (51 %), whereas the yield of 17 drops to a meager 2.6 %.…”
