Biosynthesized Nanosilver from Alginate Dialdehyde: An In Vitro Evaluation

Abstract: The superior antimicrobial properties of nanosilver (AgNP) led to its applications in healthcare and hygiene products. Herein, we report an efficient and simple green chemistry approach for the synthesis of AgNP by in‐situ reduction and capping by an eco‐friendly carbohydrate polymer, alginate dialdehyde (ADA). The UV‐Vis absorption maxima of the ADA‐capped silver nanoparticles (ADA‐AgNPs) showed a surface plasmon resonance peak at 411 nm, a peak characteristic to silver nanoparticles, within 30 min of the ons… Show more

“…These peak shifts were presumably due to the complexation of Ag + with –OH groups of EVAL (Figure 3B). 25–27 It is reported that in Ag + to Ag 0 reduction during nanoparticle formation, the peaks for Ag3d 3/2 and Ag3d 5/2 were observed at 374.3 and 368.3 eV respectively and represents the presence of a metallic silver 28,29 . So, these results confirmed the complexation of Ag+ with the –OH groups of EVAL (Scheme 1) and no metallic silver is present.…”
