Biosynthesized gold and silver nanoparticles by aqueous fruit extract of Chaenomeles sinensis and screening of their biomedical activities

Abstract: The design of mild and non-toxic synthesis of metallic nanoparticles is a topical subject in the nanotechnology field. The objective of this present study is to screen the bioactivity of biosynthesized nanoparticles by aqueous fruit extract of Chaenomeles sinensis. The reducing and stabilizing ability of C. sinensis to fabricate gold (Cs-AuNps) and silver (Cs-AgNps) nanoparticles was confirmed by UV-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy at 562 nm and 477 nm, respectively. The field-emission transmission electron micro… Show more

“…Bauhinia variegata flower extract synthesized AgNPs showed DPPH radical scavenging activity with IC 50 value of 4.64 µg/mL [68]. AgNPs synthesized using Chaenomeles sinensis fruit extract mediated AgNPs showed effective DPPH scavenging activity [69]. Antioxidant activity is the important property for AgNPs as they will be used for different biological, neutraceutical and pharmaceutical purposes.…”

“…The biological synthesis of RS-AgNPs using aqueous leaf extracts of R. suaveolens was evident by a variation in the color from colorless to brownish-yellow of oxidized silver nitrate solution in dark condition. Color change was an initial indication for the formation of RS-AgNPs [10,[26][27][28]. Further the confirmation of the biosynthesis of RS-AgNPs was done by UV-Vis analysis.…”

“…Hence, the biological methods for the synthesis of AgNPs have become prime choice. The biological or biosynthesis methods of AgNPs including bacterial assisted [23], fungal mediated [24], actinomycetes mediated [25] and plant assisted methods [26][27][28] have been reported as simple, rapid, inexpensive and ecofriendly approaches which are alternative to physical and chemical methods. Different plant extracts including Anthemis atropatana [29], Bauhinia variegata [30], Caesalpinia pulcherrima [31], Cassia fistula [32], Euphrasia officinalis [33], Glycyrrhiza uralensis [34], Indigofera tinctoria [35], Ipomoea batatas [36], Prosopis juliflora [37] and Punica granatum [38] have been successfully reported for the biosynthesis of AgNPs.…”

“…Although it tastes bad, it has high medicinal value and nutritional value. Chaenomeles sinensis fruit was rich in vitamins [4][5][6] and dietary fiber [7], organic acids and bioactive phenolic acids, as well as a large amount of bioactive pentacyclic triterpene acids [8], such as oleanolic acid and ursolic acid [9]. In addition, flavonoids are one of the major phytochemicals in the fruit of Chaenomeles sinensis, and are reported to be effective against antioxidant [10][11][12].…”
