“…Chemical control of N. elegantalis is hampered by the larval habit of penetrating the fruits soon after hatching (Fragoso et al, 2021), and alternative methods should be sought for the management of the pest. Arcanjo et al (2021) developed a decision-making system for the management of N. elegantalis, based on sequential sampling plans for eggs, according to insecticide spraying methods and tomato plant stages.…”

“…Arcanjo et al (2021) developed a decision-making system for the management of N. elegantalis, based on sequential sampling plans for eggs, according to insecticide spraying methods and tomato plant stages. Fragoso et al (2021) evaluated the activity of four plant extracts on different stages of N. elegantalis, of which only aqueous extracts of commercial rope tobacco Nicotiana tabacum showed insecticidal activity. In Colombia, four distinct races of N. elegantalis associated to the different larval hosts were recorded (Díaz-Montilla et al, 2018); the authors suggest that these hybrids can be potentially useful for the management of N. elegantalis, since they showed reproductive incompatibility which resulted in low survival rates and consequently low densities in the field.…”

“…The extracts displayed a good activity with 50% of C. cautella eggs not hatching at 10.000 ppm (1%) [24]. Recently, [25] have estimated the biological activity of plant extracts on the small tomato borer Neoleucinodes elegantalis. The rope tobacco extract was then selected to assess its effectiveness not only on eggs and the prepupal stage.…”

“…and Diaphania nitidalis Cramer, 1782 (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) [15] (Mushobozy, Nganilevanu, Ruheza, & Swella, 2009). Although castor seed oil has been described as a promising biopesticide [15,14,16], there are no studies of this oil in the control of O. ilicis, the red coffee mite.…”
