-(Sexual system and floral biology of Pouteria ramiflora and P. torta (Sapotaceae)). Pouteria ramiflora and P. torta are tree species sympatric in the Cerrado and were studied in the Natural Reserve of Clube Caça e Pesca Itororó (Uberlândia-MG) in order to compare various aspects of their reproductive biology. The phenophases were evaluated weekly and their intensity was quantified. The floral biology, breeding system, sexual system and floral visitors were studied in the field and/or laboratory. In both species, leaf fall occurred in the end of the dry season, leaf flushing between the dry and the rainy season, flowering in the dry season and fruit maturation during the rainy season. They have tubular small greenish flowers, with small amounts of nectar and high pollen viability. They are self-sterile, non-agamospermic and had low fruiting success from natural pollination. P. torta is a hermaphrodite species, with protogynous and hercogamous flowers, while P. ramiflora is morphologically gynomonoecious but functionally unisexual. The apparently low pollen flow and the abortion of young fruits resulted in low fruit set from natural pollinations. Both species are visited by several small insects, including butterflies, moths, flies and bees.Key words -Cerrado, dichogamy, monoecy, pollination, self-incompatibility RESUMO -(Sistema sexual e biologia floral de Pouteria ramiflora e P. torta (Sapotaceae)). Pouteria ramiflora e P. torta são espécies arbóreas, simpátricas no Bioma Cerrado, e foram estudadas da Reserva Ecológica do Clube Caça e Pesca Itororó, Uberlândia-MG com o objetivo de comparar os vários aspectos de sua biologia reprodutiva. As fenofases foram avaliadas semanalmente e quantificadas quanto à intensidade. Os dados de biologia floral, sistema reprodutivo, sistema sexual e visitantes florais foram obtidos no campo e/ou no laboratório. As espécies apresentaram caducifolia no final da seca, brotação na transição da seca para o período chuvoso, floração na seca e maturação dos frutos na época chuvosa. Ambas possuem flores tubulares, pequenas e esverdeadas, nectaríferas e com viabilidade polínica alta. São autoestéreis e não agamospérmicas e apresentaram baixo sucesso de frutificação na polinização aberta. P. torta é hermafrodita, com flores protogínicas e hercogâmicas, enquanto P. ramiflora é morfologicamente ginomonóica e funcionalmente monóica. O fluxo de pólen aparentemente baixo entre as plantas e o aborto de frutos jovens resultaram em um pequeno sucesso de frutificação proveniente das polinizações naturais. Sideroxylon obtusifolium (Roem. & Schul.) Penn. is a native species from Caatinga biome, but due to disorderly exploitation for phytoteraphy industry, it is in danger of extinction. Recent researches report that the diversity of vegetal species in Brazilian semiarid regions, when meticulously assessed through methods that focus on properties of molecules from different plant structures, may present a high potential for the discovery and development of new antifungal substances. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of S. obtusifolium seeds treatment with Caesalpinia ferrea extract on the control of Colletotrichum sp. In each treatment, 100 seeds were inoculated with the pathogen through immersion in a suspension of Colletotrichum sp. conidia, and then subjected to the following treatments: Seeds without treatment and not inoculated (T 1 ), seeds infected with Colletotrichum sp. (T 2 ), infected seeds treated with captan fungicide (T 3 ) and infected seeds treated with C. ferrea extract (T 4 ). C. ferrea extract provided a higher protection to S. obtusifolium seeds and seedlings against Colletotrichum sp., indicating that it is a viable and sustainable biotechnological resource against pathogens and a promising molecule for the development of new antifungal substances.

RESUMO -O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a fenologia, biologia reprodutiva e visitantes florais de Sideroxylon obtusifolium em área de caatinga. O estudo foi realizado de outubro de 2003 a setembro de 2005, em populações naturais de S. obtusifolium, na Reserva Legal do Projeto Salitre, em Juazeiro, BA. Os dados fenológicos indicaram que as fenofases vegetativas (brotação e senescência foliar) ocorreram ao longo do ano, enquanto a floração e frutificação foram registradas na estação seca e das chuvas, respectivamente. As flores são hermafroditas, de coloração creme, exalam odor, secretam pequena quantidade de néctar (< 1 μl) e apresentam antese diurna e dicogamia protogínica. Entre os visitantes florais, foram registradas abelhas, vespas, moscas e borboletas. Apis mellifera e os dípteros morfoespécie 1 e 2 foram considerados polinizadores dessa sapotácea. Quanto ao sistema de reprodução, S. obtusifolium é autógama facultativa, produzindo frutos por autopolinização (6,6%) e por polinização cruzada (33%). Diferenças no registro fenológico, na biologia floral e nos agentes polinizadores foram encontradas, em comparação com outros ambientes, indicando que as variáveis climáticas podem ser um dos diversos fatores que influenciam essa relação.Palavras-chave: Caatinga; Protoginia; Miofilia.
