Biodegradable MoOx@MB incorporated hydrogel as light-activated dressing for rapid and safe bacteria eradication and wound healing

Abstract: A photoactivated MoOx@MB-hy hydrogel was constructed with synergistic photothermal–photodynamic therapy properties for enhanced ROS accumulation on a bacterial surface to rapidly eradicate bacteria and accelerate the healing of wounds infected by drug-resistant bacteria.

“…Meanwhile, the healing of Amp r E. coli-infected wounds was effectively promoted under the same conditions. [142] However, the PDT can be greatly weakened due to the limitation of ROS diffusion by the hydrogel carrier. [143] To this end, enhancing the capture of bacteria by hydrogels is a feasible strategy.…”

“…Photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) rely on the absorption of light energy by photosensitizers to produce germicidal reactive oxygen species (ROS) and high heat for disinfection. , Nonetheless, the exact mechanism of the synergistic effect of photosensitizers on MRSA or other pathogens remains unknown and complex, and the potential effect on PBP2a, which governs the corresponding resistance to MRSA, is unclear. Most of the research on the development of nanophotosensitizers has been concentrated on conventional near-infrared absorbing materials such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) nanoparticles, or nanosheets, Au and its oxides, , metal–organic framework-derived carbon nanostructures, and black phosphorus.…”

“…The ternary bismuth molybdenum oxide is widely used in catalysis fields due to its particular morphology, high specific surface area, and direct bandgap. , Unlike other heavy metals, bismuth is a distinctive green element with low toxicity, no carcinogenic, and can be excreted through urination . Similarly, Mo is an essential element in living organisms and is available at a low cost . However, single-phase ternary bismuth molybdenum oxide shows low stability, poor dispersity, and high recombination rates of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, which substantially restricts its potential for practical applications in biomedicine.…”
