Purpose: To develop Brazilian Portuguese Dichotic Sentence List Test, check its applicability and propose an application protocol for auditory processing assessment. Methods: The lists of sentences were taken from the original material, analyzed in detailed and adapted to form the new test. To compose pairs of sentences with as much of the same duration as possible, the duration of each sentence was statistically analyzed within the same list and among lists. The lists were combined in increasing order of length, within each list; and combinations of the lists were formed according to the length of sentences, resulting in 42 different sets of lists. Then, the test was performed with 42 normal hearing individuals. Individuals were instructed on how to answer: initially, they should repeat the sentences presented to both ears (attention divided between the right and the left ears). Then, the steps for the right ear phrases (attention directed to the right ear), and finally for the left ear (attention directed to the left ear) were performed. Results: The new material was composed as follows: track 1, pure tone calibration; track 2, modified 1A list; and tracks 3 to 44, the 42 possible combinations among the lists. After the test was applied, an application protocol was suggested. Conclusion: The Brazilian Portuguese Dichotic Sentence List Test was developed and proved to be an instrument that can be used in adults. Therefore, a protocol was proposed with two different combinations of lists and presentation sequence for auditory processing assessment.Keywords: Hearing; Speech discrimination tests; Auditory perception; Audiology; Hearing Tests RESUMO Objetivo: Desenvolver o teste Listas de Sentenças Dicóticas em Português Brasileiro, verificar sua aplicabilidade e propor um protocolo de aplicação para avaliação do processamento auditivo. Métodos: As listas de frases foram extraídas do material original, submetidas a uma análise criteriosa e ao processo de adaptação, para compor o novo teste. Para formar pares de frases com duração mais aproximada possível, foi analisado estatisticamente o tempo de duração de cada sentença, dentro de uma mesma lista e entre listas. Estas foram combinadas em ordem crescente de duração, dentro de cada lista, e realizadas as combinações das listas entre si, de acordo com a duração das sentenças, gerando 42 conjuntos distintos de listas. Em seguida, o teste foi aplicado em 42 indivíduos normo-ouvintes. Os indivíduos foram instruídos sobre a forma de resposta, devendo repetir, inicialmente, as sentenças de ambas as orelhas (atenção dividida entre orelha direita e esquerda), em seguida, as frases da orelha direita (atenção direcionada para a orelha direita) e, finalmente, as da orelha esquerda (atenção direcionada para a orelha esquerda). RESUMOObjetivo: Comparar a habilidade de reconhecimento de sentenças no silêncio e no ruído em indivíduos normo-ouvintes monolíngues, falantes do português brasileiro e, bilíngues, falantes do português brasileiro e do alemão, e do português brasileiro e italiano, bem como analisar a influência do período de aquisição da segunda língua no desempenho dos bilíngues. Método Participaram da pesquisa 87 indivíduos entre a faixa etária de 18 e 55 anos de idade, normo-ouvintes, os quais foram distribuídos em: grupo controle, composto de 30 monolíngues falantes do português brasileiro; grupo estudo alemão, 31 bilíngues simultâneos falantes do português e do alemão como segunda língua; grupo estudo italiano, formado por 26 bilíngues sucessivos, falantes do português e do italiano como segunda língua. Por meio do teste Listas de Sentenças em Português Brasileiro, foram obtidos seus Limiares de Reconhecimento de Sentenças no Silêncio e no Ruído. Resultados No silêncio, não houve diferenças estatisticamente significantes de desempenho tanto quando comparados os indivíduos bilíngues e monolíngues como quando comparados os grupos bilíngues. Por sua vez, no ruído, verificou-se diferença significante entre os grupos bilíngues, em relação ao monolíngue. Entretanto, quando comparado o desempenho dos grupos bilíngues, não se observou diferença significante entre eles. Conclusão O bilinguismo influenciou positivamente o desenvolvimento de habilidades auditivas, que repercutiram em desempenhos superiores dos bilíngues no reconhecimento de fala na presença de ruído, e o período de aquisição da segunda língua não influenciou o desempenho dos bilíngues.

Purpose:To compare the influences of the results of auditory processing tests from sign language interpreters over the translation of visual/gestural speech. Methods: Fourteen interpreters of Brazilian sign language participated; they underwent 11 auditory processing tests and had their visual/gestural speech recorded for evaluation. The subjects were divided into two groups: G1, which consisted of seven interpreters with satisfactory levels of translation proficiency; and G2, which consisted of seven interpreters with an unsatisfactory level of translation proficiency. The candidates were selected from a philanthropic organization representative of the deaf community and sign language interpreters in Brazil via voluntary participation. For the statistical analyses, Mann-Whitney U test and the Two-Proportion Equality test were used. Results: The groups were compared based on the performances of their auditory processing evaluation. Differences were noticed on the Duration Pattern test and on the Non-Verbal Dichotic test, whereby G2 showed poorer performances for both tests. Furthermore, G2 reported a larger incidence of auditory processing complaints from patients, and from those with a predisposing history of disturbed auditory processing, compared to G1. Conclusion: G2 had poorer performance for the Non-Verbal Dichotic Pattern test and the Duration Pattern test. The results reveal that temporal and non-verbal processing of the acoustic signal, linked to the paralinguistic aspects of the speech to be interpreted, was conditional for effective comprehension of paralinguistic aspects and for the performance of the translation.Keywords: Hearing tests; Auditory pathways; Translating; Multilingualism; Psicholinguistic RESUMO Objetivo: Comparar a influência dos achados da avaliação do processamento auditivo de Tradutores Intérpretes de Língua de Sinais nos seus discursos visogestuais interpretados. Métodos: Participaram 14 intérpre-tes de Língua Brasileira de Sinais (LIBRAS), submetidos a 11 testes de avaliação do processamento auditivo central (PAC) e avaliação de discurso visogestual filmado. Os sujeitos foram divididos em dois grupos: G1 -sete sujeitos com nível satisfatório de proficiência tradutória -e G2 -sete sujeitos com nível insatisfatório de proficiência tradutória. O recrutamento ocorreu por demanda espontânea, a partir de um e-mail informativo enviado a uma entidade filantrópica de grande representatividade na comunidade surda e de tradutores intérpretes de LIBRAS no Brasil. Para análise estatística, foram utilizados o teste Mann-Whitney e o teste de Igualdade de Duas Proporções. Resultados: Quanto à comparação de desempenho nos testes de PAC, houve diferença no teste de Padrão de Duração e no teste dicótico Não Verbal, com pior desempenho no G2, para ambos os procedimentos.
