Background: Case reports provide a salient contribution to the field of plastic surgery through the timely dissemination of knowledge on previously underreported topics. Once a time-honored hallmark of the surgical literature, the perceived value of case reports has decreased with the ongoing prioritization of higher levels of evidence. In this study, we aimed to assess long-term trends in case report publication rates and discuss the continued merits of case reports in the modern-day landscape. Methods: A PubMed search was used to identify articles published in six prominent plastic surgery journals since 1980. Articles were separated as case reports versus all other publication types. The total number of articles published by group was tracked, and citation rates were compared across groups. Additionally, the most cited articles from each journal were identified for both groups. Results: A total of 68,444 articles were included for analysis. In 1980, there were 181 case reports published compared with 413 other articles across all six journals. In 2022, there were 188 case reports published compared with 3343 other articles. When comparing citations per year of case reports versus other article types across all journals since 1980, case reports were found to be cited significantly less frequently (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Case reports have been published and cited less frequently than other types of literature over the last 42 years. However, despite these trends, they have demonstrated significant historical contributions and provide continued value as an impactful forum for highlighting novel clinical entities.

Background: A thorough bibliometric analysis of publications published in the field of chondrosarcoma research has not yet been performed in the Web of Science database, especially for publications published between 1993 and 2023. This study, with a focus on the fields of orthopedics, surgery, and oncology, aims to fill this knowledge gap by providing a thorough analysis of the current knowledge in the field of chondrosarcoma. Methods: In this bibliometric study, a literature search was performed in the Web of Science database to find all publications on chondrosarcoma. For data visualization and analysis, a bibliometric software program was used (the open-source visualization application Vosviewer). Results: The Web of Science Core Collection data used for this retrospective bibliometric study, which covers the period from January 1993 to September 2023, reveals interesting trends in chondrosarcoma research. As the most popular fields of study, orthopedics, surgery, and oncology accounted for a sizable portion of the publications. A noteworthy increase in research output from 2014 to 2023, accounting for 41.74% of the papers, reflects a thriving research environment. Leading countries for publications were China, Japan, and the United States, demonstrating cross-border cooperation in chondrosarcoma research. Their contributions were highlighted by important affiliations with institutions like Harvard University, Leiden University, and China Medical University Taiwan. A thorough keyword mapping analysis also highlighted research priorities, encouraging interdisciplinary cooperation. The field's scholarly importance and ongoing relevance are highlighted by the study's high citation count (30,076 total) and highly cited articles. Conclusions: Overall, this information offers crucial insights into the chondrosarcoma research landscape's development, its collaborative nature, and its long-lasting influence on academic research and clinical practice.

La economía circular es definida como la tendencia actual que promueve la reducción, reutilización y reciclaje de productos una vez se culmine su uso, dándoles una segunda oportunidad y privilegiando el cuidado del medio ambiente. Este estudio realizó una recopilación de información reciente y relevante que evidencie la aplicación de la economía circular divulgada en las principales bases de datos latinoamericanas por medio de una revisión sistemática. El problema de investigación fue: ¿cuáles son las evidencias científicas de la aplicación de la economía circular en Sudamérica divulgadas en las bases de datos Scielo y Redalyc en los últimos tres años? Los resultados de la investigación identificaron diez divulgaciones científicas que dieron respuesta a dicho problema, los cuales fueron sinterizados clasificándolos por enfoque empleado, técnica utilizada, además de dar detalle de sus conclusiones y recomendaciones. Todas los registros identificados coincidieron en que la economía circular promueve el desarrollo sostenible, a la vez que trae beneficios empresariales por medio del incremento en ventas derivadas por la atracción de clientes preocupados por el cuidado del medio ambiente, y de la reducción de costos de fabricación debido a la adquisición de materias primas directas con precios menores por ser de segundo uso.
