Bat fauna of the Cerrado savanna of eastern Maranhão, Brazil, with new species occurrences

Abstract: In Brazil, 179 bat species have been recorded to date, representing 68 genera and nine families. Few data are available on the bat fauna of the state of Maranhão, so the present study was based on a survey of the bat fauna of the Inhamum Municipal Environmental Protection Area (APA Inhamum) in the Cerrado savanna of the eastern extreme of the state. This inventory provides new records of bat species for the state of Maranhão and the Cerrado biome. A total of 31 species (four families) were collected, represent… Show more

“…While the APA Inhamum has a diverse bat fauna, the exact species richness is still unclear. Olímpio et al (2016) including the APA Inhamum, although the occurrence of C. planirostris at this site was not recorded. The molossids are considered to be the bats that fly at the highest levels, above the forest canopy, and are thus captured in mist-nets only rarely, which contributes to the disproportionately reduced sampling of these species in inventories and the relative lack of biological and even taxonomic data (Marchesin et al, 2008).…”

“…A: with the similarity of Bray Curtis, taking into account the species abundance and B: with the similarity of Sørensen, taking into account the presence of shared and exclusive species in each location. mejor representado en los estudios de ensamblajes de murciélagos son los frugívoros y nectarívoros cuando se usan redes de niebla (Montiel, Estrada, & León, 2006;Moreno, Arita, & Solis, 2006;MacSwiney, Clarke, & Racey, 2008;Meyer & Kalko, 2008;Olímpio et al, 2016). Inclusive, en algunos casos, los únicos murciélagos insectívoros que se capturan mediante este método pertenecen a la familia Phyllostomidae (Schulze, Seavy, & Whitacre, 2000).…”
