Abstract: Lapland 2. An annotated checklist of the polypores of northeastern Finland.-Karstenia 31:13-28. Seventy-seven polypores are listed from virgin forests in northeastern Finland, ten of which are classified as threatened in Finland. The host range and abundance of each species are given. “…This species is extremely rare in the study area, found only once on very rotten pine trunk in old pine forest (11). As noted by Finnish authors (Renvall et al 1991, pine is certainly the favourite substrate in North Europe. Niemelä et al (2002) considered C. lenis a so-called kelo fungus-a species that favours long-ago died, fi nally fallen pine trees.…”

“…Now it has been refound in easternmost Finland on fallen, strongly decayed Populus tremula in moist and shady mixed forest. It is classified as endangered (Rassi et al 1992) This species was first recorded from Finland by Niemela (1982b), andRenvall et al (1991) reported two new collections from northeastern Finland; they are not repeated here. P. sajanensis seems to be an extreme rarity throughout its range: it is known from two collections in Sweden (Strid 1981, one in European Russia and three collections in Siberia (Parmasto 1962(Parmasto , 1967.…”

In Fennoscandia, Betula is cited as the main host of P. igniarius (Eriksson 1958;Niemela 1975;Niemela & Kotiranta 1982;Erkkila & Niemela 1986;Renvall et al 1991); besides , the taxon is found on Salix and numerous other trees . As well, in the eastern part of Europe and the territory of the former USSR Betula is reported as common host (Bondartsev 1953 ;Domanski et al 1973).…”
