“…Thus, the results of pairing tests (Fischer 1995;Fischer and Binder 1995) that revealed five pileate species of the P. igniarius group (P. alni, P. cinereus, P. igniarius, P. nigricans, and P. populicola) do not support the DNA sequence data of the same authors (Fischer and Binder 2004). The partial intersterility between P. alni and "P. nigricans" no.…”

“…The European P. cinereus sequences analyzed by Sell (2008) resemble those of Fischer and Binder (2004), so they match with P. nigricans. According to Fischer and Binder (1995), P. nigricans from Fennoscandia was mostly mating compatible with P. alni; P. cinereus was shown to be fully negative with P. alni, and mostly negative with P. nigricans. In addition, the RFLP data based on the 5.8S-LSU region of rDNA revealed the common RFLP profile for both P. alni and P. nigricans, while P. cinereus had a distinct profile (Fischer 1995;Fischer and Binder 1995).…”
