“…TUSoD11 is a lysogenic E. faecalis strain, harbouring a wEf11 prophage, which was previously isolated from an infected root canal (Stevens et al, 2009). Following curing, the non-lysogenic variant of this strain was designated E. faecalis TUSoD11 (DwEf11).…”

“…wEf11 is a temperate bacteriophage that was induced from a lysogenic root canal isolate of Enterococcus faecalis (Stevens et al, 2009). It is a member of the family Siphoviridae, with a long (130 nm) non-contractile tail and a small (41 nm diameter) spherical/icosohedral head.…”

“…Despite the significance of E. faecalis in root canal infections, very few attempts were made to treat E. faecalis infection using phage therapy (31,32). In the present study, an E. faecalis-infecting phage was isolated from sewage and characterized genetically by sequencing and functionally by evaluating its efficacy against E. faecalis planktonic and biofilm cultures in vitro.…”

“…Studies on saliva have isolated bacteriophages with a) bactericidal effect against specific bacterial pathogens such as Enterococcus faecalis, for example (Stevens et al 2009) and b) transduction property capable of transferring antibiotic resistance genes. The example includes temperate bacteriophage that transfers genes among Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans strains (Sandmeier et al 1995, Roy 2015.…”
