Bacteria that degrade low-molecular linear epsilon-caprolactam oligomers

Abstract: Five bacterial strains with the unique ability to utilize low molecular linear caprolactam oligomers (nylon oligomers) were isolated from soil samples contaminated with industrial wastes of epsilon caprolactam. Based on the properties studied and also on the analysis of 16S rRNA gene nucleotide sequences, the strains BS2, BS3, BS9, BS38, and BS57 were identified as belonging to the genera Arthrobacter, Brevibacterium, Microbacterium, Gulosibacter, and Achromobacter, respectively. All of the strains also utiliz… Show more

“…Several studied reported that GABA could improve hypertension as the fermented product of intestinal lactic acid bacteria (Chang, Chiu, & Fu, ), in line with our result of Lactobacillus species abundance increased. Arabinoxylan supplementation reduced colonic epsilon‐caprolactam level as a low toxic substance, which could be degraded by several bacteria (Esikova, Akatova, & Taran, ). These results inferred that arabinoxylan could improve intestinal mucosal barrier via modulating colonic metabolites production.…”

“…Bacterial strain BS3 (VKM Ac-2833) has been isolated earlier from soil sampled in a CAP production territory (Shchekino, Tula Region, Russia) [ 13 ]. The bacterium was cultivated in a mineral salt medium (MSM) containing (g/L): KH 2 PO 4 , 0.2; K 2 HPO 4 , 0.6; NaCl, 0.3; NH 4 Cl, 0.4; CaCl 2 × 2H 2 O, 0.1; MgSO 4 × 7H 2 O, 0.2.…”
