“…To investigate the enzymatic activity at the end of OxiTop cultivation, the samples were centrifuged for 5 min at 9000 rpm (Megafuge 16R, Thermo Scientific, Inc.) and analyzed for enzyme activity. Protease activity was measured spectrophotometrically (Libra S22−Biochrom Ltd., UK) as enzymatic casein hydrolysis by measuring released amino acids at 280 nm using the procedure reported by Vargas-Suaŕez et al 28 Esterase activity was measured spectrophotometrically (Infinite M200 PRO, Tecan Group Ltd.) by measuring released nitrophenol at 405 nm as a result of enzymatic hydrolysis of the three substrates, 4-nitrophenyl acetate (pNPA), 4nitrophenyl butyrate (pNPB), and 4-nitrophenyl dodecanoate (pNPD), as previously reported. 29 4-Nitrophenol (pNP) was used for calibration.…”

“…Moreover, our research group found that extracellular esterase activity from microbial communities selected from a landfill was higher when grown in a commercial acrylic dispersion (Bayhydrol®) than when grown in a non-acrylic polyurethane dispersion (Neorez®), used as sole carbon sources. Besides, an increase in FTIR's carbonyl signal when the polymer was exposed to the selected microbial communities supports esterase activity participation in AP biodegradation (Vargas-Suárez et al 2019). The role of lipases has also been studied in AP biodegradation.…”

“…More recently degradation of polyester PU was attempted using enriched microbial communities. The results of this study show that microbial consortia grow better than individual members of the community in media with NeoRez R-9637 (a polyester PU) as the sole carbon source, opening up the possibility of novel approaches in PU degradation ( Vargas-Suárez et al, 2019 ).…”
