Bacillus thuringiensis Combined With Fungicide Applications in the Management of Soybean Leaf Diseases

Abstract: Asian soybean rust (ASR) caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi is the main soybean leaf disease in Brazil. Downy mildew (Peronospora manshurica) and powdery mildew (Microsphaera diffusa) are important soybean foliar diseases of occurrence in Paraná state. To reduce severity and yield losses caused by soybean foliar diseases, this work aimed to verify the efficacy of different application doses of the commercial product Dipel® Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), which is a biological insect controller, co… Show more

“…5,12 Isolates of different Bacillus species have controlled foliar diseases of soybean when mixed with chemical fungicides. 16,17 However, here we evidenced for the first time the activity of B. subtilis against multiple soybean diseases and demonstrated possible moments to correctly apply the BBP and efficiently protect the plant. The use of biocontrol products as a biological multisite has been suggested as an eco-friendly option to reduce plant pathogens.…”

“…The use of biocontrol products as a biological multisite has been suggested as an eco-friendly option to reduce plant pathogens. 12,16,17 The formulated B. subtilis BV02 used in this work proved to be compatible with most of the evaluated chemical fungicides when applied before or even along with them.…”

“…The use of pesticides can cause damage to the environment, leading to environmental imbalance and selection of fungicide resistant fungal populations, in addition to raising the crop production's cost (Tupich et al, 2017). The reduction or elimination of pesticides in disease control is an economic and environmental necessity (Müller et al, 2019;Thadani & Rocha, 2019).…”
