Bacillus songklensis sp. nov., isolated from soil

Abstract: A Gram-stain-positive, spore-forming, rod-shaped, motile, strictly aerobic bacterial strain, designated CAU 1033 T , was isolated from soil and its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain CAU 1033 T formed a distinct lineage within the genus Bacillus and was most closely related to Bacillus drentensis KCTC 13025 T (similarity 95.9 %). CAU 1033 T contained MK-7 as the only isoprenoid quinone and iso-C 15 : 0 and… Show more

“…The DNA G+C contents of both strains were 50.5–51.2 mol%, which are similar to but slightly higher than those of other Bacillus species ( Madhaiyan et al, 2010 ; Sumpavapol et al, 2010 ). Major polar lipids of both strains were PE, PG, and DPG, which are in accordance with those of B. siamensis and B. songklensis ( Kang et al, 2013 ; Sumpavapol et al, 2010 ).…”

“…Each bacterium has a specific fatty acid profile and fatty acid analysis is used as an effective tool in bacterial taxonomy ( Kämpfer, 1994 ). The major isoprenoid quinones of strains YC7007 and YC7010 T were menaquinone-7 (MK-7) as those of the type strains of the genus Bacillus species ( Kang et al, 2013 ). The DNA G+C contents of both strains were 50.5–51.2 mol%, which are similar to but slightly higher than those of other Bacillus species ( Madhaiyan et al, 2010 ; Sumpavapol et al, 2010 ).…”

“…Bacillus species are also characterized by displaying three major polar lipids: the phospholipids phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, and diphosphatidylglycerol ( Bishop et al, 1967 ; Lang and Lundgren, 1970 ; Qiu et al, 2009 ; Zhai et al, 2012 ; Seiler et al, 2013 ; Yu et al, 2013 ; Choi and Cha, 2014 ; Jiang et al, 2014 ; Kosowski et al, 2014 ; Van Pham and Kim, 2014 ). However, some aminophospholipids are also found in the membranes of certain Bacillus strains ( Bishop et al, 1967 ; Kang et al, 2013 ; Seiler et al, 2013 ; Wang et al, 2013 ; Choi and Cha, 2014 ).…”

“…The presence of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol in strain NPK15 T has also been reported for B. subtilis (Minnikin & Goodfellow, 1981). On the other hand, strain NPK15 T differs from B. songklensis KCTC 13881 T by the absence of two unidentified phospholipids, four unidentified aminophospholipids, an unidentified aminolipid, two unidentified glycolipids and an unidentified polar lipid (Kang et al, 2013). However, an unknown phospholipid, an unknown aminophospholipid and an unknown polar lipid were also present in 'B.…”
