Bacillus encimensis sp. nov. isolated from marine sediment

Abstract: A Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, endospore-forming, aerobic bacterium designated SGD-V-25 T was isolated from Veraval sediment sample, India. Strain SGD-V-25T was capable of growing at 25-50 6C (optimum 37 6C), pH 6-12 (optimum pH 7.0) and with 0-5 % (w/v) NaCl. The taxonomic position of this strain was deduced using a polyphasic approach and the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the isolate belongs to the phylum Firmicutes, forming the cluster with Bacillus badius MTCC 1548 T , with which it share… Show more

“…Besides, Clostridium sensu stricto 1 and Clostridium sensu stricto 10 appeared in SI-0 with the RAs of 25.10 and 15.27%, respectively. Members of Bacillus are aerobes or facultative anaerobes that produce cellulase, hemicellulase, ligninase, amylase, protease, and pectinase ( Dastager et al, 2015 ; Yang et al, 2017 ; Xu et al, 2018 ). Therefore, this genus might result in the rapid consumption of oxygen during the pretreatment (as shown in Figure 2B ) and induce cellulose and lignin degradation.…”

“…Effect of temperature on growth of P1 was determined by incubating culture at various temperatures from 25-75 C. Effect of NaCl concentration on growth of P1 was determined at various NaCl concentrations of 0-10%. Effect of incubation period on growth of P1 was determined by observing its growth rate up to 120 h [3,4,35,36,37,38,39].…”

“…Bacillus species are ubiquitous Gram-positive bacteria known for their ability to survive in a wide variety of environments, including marine environments such as seawater 1 , tidal flat 2–4 , and sediments 5–10 ; soil environments such as rhizospheres 1115 ; human gut samples 1618 ; as well as food samples such as dairy products 19,20 and fermented soybeans 19 . For several Bacillus strains from such diverse environments, in silico methods 21,22 and in vitro experiments 2330 have shown strong biosynthetic and superb protein secreting capabilities.…”
