“…All of the reports involved renal transplant recipients (total n = 124) who developed cyclosporine‐induced gingival hyperplasia and were treated with a short‐course (3–5 days) azithromycin. As calcium channel blockers and anticonvulsant agents have also been associated with gingival hyperplasia, one trial excluded patients receiving phenytoin (9), one trial excluded patients receiving phenytoin or nifedipine (10), one trial excluded patients in whom phenytoin or any calcium channel blocker was initiated during the study period (14), and in the remainder it was unknown or not stated whether patients could have received these agents concomitantly (6–8, 11–13). Follow‐up periods ranged from 7 days to 24 months, and the majority of studies included baseline data (cyclosporine and serum creatinine levels, cyclosporine dose) for comparative purposes.…”
