Abstract: E. coli, P. aeruginosa, A. hydrophila and A. caviae. It was concluded that of all ten tested brands, at least one sample of each brand was improper for consumption, for not meeting the parameters established by legislation in at least two tests; the Most Probable Number (MPN) for Pseudomonas spp. and P. aeruginosa was influenced by seasonality and the count of heterotrophic bacteria; the Most Probable Number (MPN) of coliform and thermotolerants and research of Aeromonas spp. suffered no significant influence… Show more

“…and the highest coliform concentration. The antimicrobial activity of P. aeruginosa on coliforms was confirmed in a study of antagonism between P. aeruginosa and bacterial indicators of fecal contamination in water, due to a substance called "Pseudocin" (PLS), exerting a bacteriostatic effect on the growth of this group (Vasconcelos et al 2006;Coelho et al 2010). However, it is not possible to make any similar association in the present study, since we use different techniques for Pseudomonas spp.…”

“…In humans, they are responsible for ocular and cutaneous diseases and can cause serious fatal illnesses in burned and surgical patients and in immunocompromised individuals (Mena & Gerba 2009). According to Coelho et al (2010), Pseudomonas aeruginosa became a commonplace bacteria in microbiological analyses in chlorinated, non-chlorinated and natural mineral water in Brazil. In the samples from this study, the presence of coliforms was observed in six samples (25%), in the third collection at 35ºC and the presence of coliforms, including Escherichia coli, was not observed in any collection at 45ºC (Table 4).…”

“…The difference between the coliform counts at 35ºC obtained in the third collection with the others can be explained due to the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the sample. According to Coelho et al (2010), Pseudomonas aeruginosa inhibits the growth of bacteria in the coliform group, i.e., this bacteriostatic effect contributed to the presence of this bacterium only in the third collection.…”
