Sucrose use in wound treatment is a common practice that seems to promote tissue healing and reduce microbial load. The objective here was thus to analyze the scientific evidence through an integrative review to determinate indications and contraindications for use of sucrose in the form of granulated, brown (unrefined muscovado sugar) and/or refined sugar in infected wounds and thus assist the professional in clinical decision-making. Ten studies published in full articles were selected, from the period 2002 to 2012 and indexed in the PubMed, Cinahl, Lilacs and Cochrane databases. Considering the analysis of studies, mostly experimental in the animal model, sugar’s effectiveness in tissue repair was verified, as was positive modulation in the inflammatory response. To elucidate the mechanisms or action of sucrose in the wound, further clinical trials are recommended in order to standardize the concentration, volume and frequency of sucrose in changes of wound dressings.

Background: Some studies claim that the presence of venous ulcers (VU) negatively impacts the quality of life (QOL) of people affected and it is a major public health problem. Healthcare of these people are complex and requires planning and involvement of the multidisciplinary team that knows the profile and demands of this population.Objective: To identify associations between socioeconomic, clinical and health aspects and quality of life (QOL) of people with venous ulcers (VU), through the Charing Cross Venous Ulcer (CCVUQ).Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, conducted in mix and family health units in Natal (42 units), Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil (N=101). Were applied two instruments: a structured form on sociodemographic, clinical, and health, and the translated and validated CCVUQ in Brazil. A descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney test, p-value <0.05 was used for analysis.Results: There was statistically significant association and indicative of worse QOL between total score with the place of origin of the north zone and pain presence; an emotional state with age until 59 years old and venous ulcer time less or equal to one year; aesthetics with age until 59 years old.Conclusion: These results demonstrate that age, origin, presence of pain, injury time and sleep interfere with the person´s QOL with VU. The research of sociodemographic, clinical and health factors is important to planning multidisciplinary actions because they can influence the person's QOL with VU.

Objetivo: identificar na literatura os instrumentos utilizados na prática clínica para a avaliação de feridas crônicas de membros inferiores. Método: trata-se de uma revisão integrativa, com buscas nas bases de dados PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, e SciELO, além de buscas adicionais na literatura cinzenta (Google Scholar e BDTD) e buscas manuais em listas de referências. Foram incluídos estudos primários com pacientes adultos em português, inglês ou espanhol, sem delimitação temporal, sobre instrumentos de avaliação e estadiamento de cicatrização de úlceras de membros inferiores. Os artigos foram selecionados independentemente da etiologia da ferida e da fase do tratamento. Resultados: foram recuperados 1.415 artigos, 9 dos quais sendo incluídos na revisão. Dentre as ferramentas listadas nos artigos, destacam-se a PUSH,DMIST,DFUAS, revPWAT, e CSSC, sendo a PUSH mais utilizada. Conclusão: O uso de ferramentas de avaliação para estadiamento da cicatrização de feridas em MMII permite aos profissionais de saúde uma conduta mais padronizada e uma melhor tomada de decisão terapêutica.
